Most of this year was spent teaching myself how to tat. I've used those skills in accordance with what I know how to do already in crochet to make some buttons and necklace charms for my female family and friends this holiday season. the results are fairly vintage looking, which is what I was going for.

- There was, however, a point where I made a cowl, some wristlets, a hat, and some other things to go along with a very fancy book cover I made for my copy of Catherynne M. Valente's Palimpsest, which is currently one of my favourite novels.

Expect a few more posts at some point after I finish making different coloured florets or rings to go with the other vintage jewellery items I'm working on for the holidays.

2010 is here, but where will I be this time next year?

Since my last post, I've finished up a few things, and made a few things that were new and completely different, also I've set aside projects in order to do new ones. Here's a small run-down of what I've made since my last post...

I've made a scarf for my Uncle Will. I knocked this out in only a couple of days as it was a really simple pattern. It was to be a Christmas gift, but I ended up giving it to him pretty early. I'm not sure if he's even worn it at all, but I thought he would enjoy it. It was really warm and nice and scrunchie when I tested it out, so I may have to make myself one in this same sort of style just because of how awesome it felt!

Then I ended up making a toy for the cat because he likes to tear into things when he plays. I thought that this would be something he'd enjoy because it's on the door, and it kind of pulls back.

Looking back on it now, it might not have been such a great idea, because there are times when my room-mates and I are awoken at night because of the cat's hijinks and playing with everything...

There were several other toys that were thrown together for him, but they were all as easy as scrunching up some wrapping paper and tying a string to it, or letting him get ahold of some of the plastic christmas ornaments...

I also figured out a way to crochet little star-shaped amigurumi! There's a wonderful site that has a great pattern for them, the only problem one might have is that it's in Japanese. I used GoogleTranslate to translate it into english, but even then some people may have trouble with it.

I'm not sure if I'm doing it the way I should be doing it, but all the same it's turning out really well with all the ones I've made.

I went out and bought some baby soft yarn in a nice soft yellow and a soft green. I'm hoping to make several of them. Once I get really good at making the standard size, I'm going to try to make the pattern larger and see if I can make larger versions of the little paupu star fruit. This image has a string attached to the leaf because I added that there for my friend, so he might be able to hang it up. The other versions of the plush didn't have that string, and I've been thinking about ways to add strings or if I wanted to do that kind of "optional" thing when I give them to my friends.

If you don't know what a Paopu fruit is, it's from the game Kingdom Hearts by SquareEnix (lovingly referred to by most as Squeenix). I love that game series, and have been itching to make some Paopu fruit for a while but couldn't quite figure out how to do it. I recently ordered some hand-made paopu plushies from some shops on Etsy. After that I decided that I needed to make some for myself, and that's what I got!

I also made several pairs of worsted-weight socks. These things are GREAT as slippers! I love mine, they're so warm and cozy! I ended up making a set in violet from the left-over yarn of my old cabled scarf. They're very cozy! When I made them, I ended up getting my room-mate very interested in a set, and had to make her some as well! The pattern is somewhat generic, and I was able to easily adjust it to fit her foot and ankle size (she has larger feet and ankles than I do)!

Both pair turned out really nicely and we love them! I want to eventually make several sets so that when my original pair are in the wash I have a back-up set to rely on!

I'm sure that there have been other projects since the last time I posted something. For right now this is the only list of things that are new to me.

I've put aside the blankets for the time being in order to complete smaller projects.

You can always keep up with all of my progress as well as projects on my Ravelry page where I generally post photos and status updates on all my projects so far.

There were a few washcloths that were made, but never got photographed. I'm also finally getting ready to send off the little clay figures that I made for my friend Mike so long ago. I've been doing a lot of artwork as well, which you can get to on my deviantART page, but you can also follow my artblog which is where I'll post special meme's and things regarding my art and whats going on there with all of that.

..//Eternity Waits//..

After my last post, I began working on a few other things, obviously.
I finished up the pink set of Fetching:

Finished a Calorimetry from Knitty as well, in pink also:

I finished a Chic Cabled Cowl in the same pink:

I made a scarf and hat set for myself for the spring time:

The scarf is a sort of jumble of things that I made using other patterns. The scarf uses the cross double crochet from SnB’s Corset Belt, added the ruffles at the end, and then made a rosette from AntiCraft’s book and combined them. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to add a second rosette or not, so I asked for a friend’s opinion. He suggested adding a tie of some sort on there to use as a closure. So I knit up an I-cord in the same colour as the rosette, and stitched it all on there.

I have yet to take a picture of the hat, but it is the Secret Garden Tam. I made it in the same colour as the rosette on my spring scarf, and added two leaves in the same green as the main body of the scarf. I'll be taking photographs of it soon enough because I have to upload them to my Ravelry page.

I have since started a new blanket in these lovely colours:

This is what it looks like so far:

It's a Stadium Blanket from Lion Brand Yarn's University Knits book. I figured I could use it at the beach, and it would be really easy to carry around because of the straps. I really love how soft the yarn is.

I also tested out a pattern for a little amigurumi Sack Boy:

This darling was designed by Moon's Creations (She has umpteen zillion other sites that I could post, including her devART, Etsy, and LJ). The pattern for it is here.

Lastly, here is an update on my Starghan!

I've pulled out all the colours I'm using for it, and have decided that the next stripe will be the same purple as the centre of the blanket itself. It's coming along quite nicely!

I have a few other projects in mind for the future. A couple of friends want more Fetching gloves, so I decided I'll try to whip those up as quickly as possible before the holidays roll around. There's also a few other small projects I'd like to start working on after I finish up at least the Stadium Blanket.

Hopefully more to post later!

...//time keeps on ticking into the future//...

I've managed quite a few things since my last post. I made some decent progress on my starghan, as well as completed a few quick and simple gifts!

First off is a pair of Knitty's fetching, in a dark blue, for my cousin Krystal.

For my first pair of these, they turned out alright. I had a little bit of an issue with holes while picking up stitches for the thumb gusset. I stitched them up using the tail end of the yarn on the first one. Then I went to the knitting communities on LiveJournal to ask for suggestions when it comes to fixing holes while knitting. The suggested method was to pick up two stitches instead of just picking up one, and on the second glove that worked out pretty dag-gone well!

I took these bad boys for a test run while shopping, and running around at work just to test to make sure that the woven ends would not pop up unannounced, and they've survived pretty well. I've even gotten a few requests for pairs from co-workers. We'll see about that!

The next thing is another set of fetching. Originally this soft pink set, made in Caron's simply soft, was supposed to be for myself.
It gets pretty chilly sometimes at work up at the register, or just relaxing in the break room, so I thought it would be nice to have something soft, and warm, for my poor chilly fingers!

Well, while I was working on these babies, my mother spied them, and immediately went gaga over them. She demanded that she get a set. After much hullabaloo we agreed that when this set was done I'd relinquish the rights, and just give them to her as a belated birthday gift.

After that I went and bought three more skeins of the Caron's Simply Soft in Soft Pink with aims to make another set of these mitts, with a tam, and possibly an Irish hiking scarf, so that I'd have a nice set to work with!

For another holiday gift, My grandmother had requested something in a nice olive-like green to match her coat. I plucked up some of my old sage yarn from an old bag project that may never get done, and set to work looking for a pattern that I liked.

Originally I wanted to use the pattern Holding Hands, Feeding Ducks -- but it just didn't want to work with me. So, scouring the internet, I found a simple pattern that knit up super quick. I was able to give my grandmother a scarf using the pattern for a scrunchable scarf on christmas day!

I haven't taken any pictures recently of my starghan, but I will the next time I've got it out to work on. It's getting pretty big, and I'm about to start on another lilac strip!

...//Hurry, Handy Halfling! TONS of things, actually.

Let's start off with the oldest....

My Prisoner of Azkaban scarf is DONE! It only took me, what? YEARS to finish? And lemme tell you, it's HUGE!

It has to be taller than I am! I ended up having to order some yarn online through e-bay. I lucked out, and got three whole skeins of the burgundy! Turns out, though, I only really needed one more. So, what do I plan to do with all the extra yarn? I'm going to make a Gryffindor-style dobby Hat and maybe some fingerless gloves to go with my scarf! I figure by the time I finish all of that, the movies may be back on schedule do their winterly release, rather than in the summertime as this next one will be. eh-heh!

What else has there been? Well, I did start another scarf, but that ended up getting put on the back burner when I went to finish up my PoA scarf. It's from Debbie Stohler's the Son of Stitch n Bitch.
It's the Argyle Scarf pattern!
I chose a soft purple, and a deep charcoal colour that was almost black for the two colours to use in this pattern, and since it's reversable, I thought, "Wow! This will be awesome!" I've dubbed it my "Awesome Argyle" scarf.

I started a blanket, or rather...A Starghan! Except, I'm going to make it larger than the normal baby-blanket sized one. I figured that it would eventally make a great lap-blanket for when I'm sitting and knitting, or crocheting. Or even working on homework at my desk. It will just be awesome! But, again it's a little tedious after a while, so then...I put it into hibernation as well because I wanted to work on instant gratification projects. haha!

I made a shawl relatively recently, as well. It was to be for the cooler late summer nights as they drew to September, but I never actually got a chance to wear it out anywhere. It's my Sweatpea Shawl....

Last year, during my second semester of classes I took an Animation class. And I had to do a project on Hayao Miyazaki, you know, from Studio Ghibli. Makes all those awesome Anime films like Spirited Away, and My Neighbor Totoro? Well, I did a big presentation on him, and I thought it would be really neat to be able to hand something out to everyone in the class. Kind of a hands-on project. So I ended up making some little Amigurumi Makurokurosuke plush dolls. The pattern I got from someone I adore, who makes tons of great little amigurumi dolls all the time. You can see her website, and the original pattern here, she also has an etsy store, a devART account, and an LJ where you can keep up with all her amigurumi-ing!. So, here are MY Makurokurosuke Soot Balls!

I've done lots of other little amigurumi in the meantime, the latest being an awesome little bun-bun for Krisco~

What a curious little fellow!

I'm going to eventually finish the projects I've started, and try to finish up some other ones I'd like to do. This bad boy has been on hiatus for about two years or so now. I purchased the yarn for this project approximately three or four years ago, and worked on it sparingly. The scarf itself will be fantastic when it's completed, however the stitching is rather dull in works, so I get bored with it.
When I started this scarf, I later found out that I'd been knitting all wrong, so the first few trapped bar repetitions are actually done wrong, however, that's not horrible, I was later able to keep working on it, and the change wasn't noticeable, so I'm really the only one who truly knows what I was doing wrong in the first place. So then, finally, when the latest Harry Potter movie was going to hit theatres -- Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix -- I wanted to have the scarf completed so that I could wear it to the movie. I set to working on it with a fervor that was unprecedented. However, all that work was very fruitless. I found out, with more than 4 trapped bar repetitions left, that I did not have enough of the soft burgundy shade of yarn I'd purchased for the project.

Not a problem, right?

Wrong. Dead Wrong.

As it turns out, the yarn that I am using for this scarf was discontinued by Walmart. It was their mainstays brand in a shade called "Soft Burgundy" In a deep state of woe, I boxed up the scarf, and began searching for people who may be willing to sell some of the elusive yarn I needed to complete it. Unfortunately I didn't find any one with it before the movie came out, and I settled to leave the scarf in a box for a very long time. In fact, it's still there, right now.

The scarf will, however, be completed! As luck would have it, I still had the midn to keep searching for the yarn I needed to make the scarf a completed project. I went onto ebay and placed a "want it now" sort of advertisement. This proved a very good deal, as recently, a very kind woman in Nevada went and dug out three full skeins of the Soft Burgundy Mainstays yarn and put it up as a reply auction to my sought out plunder. I scooped up the deal very swiftly, as she was only asking $9 for all three.

I have yet to receive the yarn I've purchased, but it was only at the beginning of last week that I ordered it, and they were having horrible wind storms out in Nevada. I'm just completely ecstatic to be getting the yarn in the first place. I'm not going to be able to jump into working on it again right away, but I will be able to finish this project in the very near future -- perhaps by the time the next Harry Potter movie comes out even!

I have no doubt that the scarf will be very warm, and now that I've got the extra yarn, I can make it a bit longer than the suggested pattern size -- I enjoy over-sized garments, and a very large scarf will be just what the doctor ordered when the chill keeps kicking in. Right now it is very cold here in Delaware, and I've got a plethora of scarves, and I love them all, but I'm always on the look-out for better patterns, and interesting materials so that I have a variety of scarves to choose from.

Second - A One Skein Scarf featured in Stitch N Bitch: The Happy Hooker. This scarf is very quick to make up -- it only took me about 2 hours of work to complete this one here. I gave this to a friend, and I'm thinking of creating several black versions to give out during the holidays since they're so swift to hook up, and they're still very stylish. Despite looking like they wouldn't be warm at all, they are very comfortable, and warm. I picked up two full skeins of Caron One Pound in black, on sale at work, to start on these gifts. Whatever is left over in black, I may use to make a hat, or something else for myself or for whoever wants something else, but for the most part, it's for various gifts. Now I have to create a list of who all is receiving these scarves in black:

Val

Krystal

Flora

Flora (younger)

Donna

Tyler

Brandi

Mum

B (may get something else)

I have to find something nice to do for the guys as well. Let's make a list of the guys I need to give gifts to:

Pete

Lance

Rob

Mike S.

Mike C.

Jeff

Donny

Danny

Maurice

I think with all the yarn I've got that there should be sufficient to make small items for everyone on the list using these two one-pound skeins of black. Worst case scenario is that I'll have to dip into my stash for more black to finish off one or two of the presents, but that's not horrible. I just have to find something nice for the gentleman. I'm not sure what, though. Perhaps fingerless wrist-warmer-glove-type-things. That sounds like a nice idea :D well, either that or little amigurumi dolls of some nature. I'll figure it out. I suppose it will have to be dependent upon who they are and personal tastes and all that.

I also made up some wrist warmers for Pete -- it was our one year anniversary in October, and I wanted to give him something to match the scarf I gave him when we first started dating, so I made up these wrist warmers as quickly as possible. They're basically the pattern Dashing from knitty.com without the thumb gusset. I figured that without the gusset they would be pretty nice and I was correct. He enjoyed them as far as I can tell, and I hope he's been wearing the set. I wonder if he'd wear a hat if I made it. He's not much of a hat person, per say, but if I made a nice hat for him, he may wear it...hmm. that's an idea. I don't have too much of the gray heather yarn left over so I may have to go pick some up to make a hat with, but it'd be pretty nice. I doubt a skull cap will suffice. It may have to be some sort of newsboy. I'll look through Son of Stitch n Bitch to see what I can come up with, if anything, that I enjoy. There are some nice hats in there.
All-in-all I'm very happy with the dashing pattern itself. It made me want to create my own fingerless wrist-warmers. Which I may still do eventually. Right now, however, I'm stuck with my blanket, as well as everyone's holiday gifts. I've also got the potential project completion of my Harry Potter scarf, but then I saw a nice Argyle scarf in Son of Stitch n Bitch that I want to make for myself as well. I'm very excited about that pattern, and went so far as to pick up some Caron Simply Soft Heather in Charcoal and Plum to make the double-knit scarf for myself. I started up the project, but it being my first double-knit ordeal, I messed up so severely that I frogged it, and have yet to start over on it. I'm thinking, also, of using smaller needles than the pattern calls for due to the fact that the stitches were coming out very very loosely. I may drop down from 7s to 5s or 6s. This will create a smaller scarf, yes, but the stitches will be nicer, I believe. Regardless, I'm doing the scarf more for the pattern than for the size. I picked up two skeins of each colour, so I'm hoping that I'll get a pretty nice sized scarf out of the whole thing. I know the scarf will be warm, especially with it being double-knit. Double knitting isn't very difficult, which surprises me. I just have to remember to twist the yarn together when I start a new row -- I wasn't doing this, and this caused the edges to open up, which isn't good. When I start over, I'll be sure to do this fo reach row from now on! I enjoy the new technique, it's interesting like cable knitting. I have to concentrate a little on it, because it's a chart I've got to follow, and I've never been good with those, but in the end I'm going to be very happy with the final results, I'm sure!

What else have I been doing? I created a friendship bracelet -- another pattern off of knitty.com. Perdita, I believe.
I enjoyed this, though it was difficult to work with the thin embroidery floss and such tiny DPNs. The bead work, however, was enjoyable, and I will try to do it again in the future. The colours complimented each other very nicely, and I'm very pleased with how it all turned out. I used some faux blue pearls as the button fasteners at the end of the whole thing. I have yet to block the whole thing, but after that's all done, I'm sure the bracelet itself will be perfectly wearable! It's a very lovely design, and I'm thinking of making more in the future as birthday gifts for my female friends or just as nice gestures, who knows.

With the weather getting colder, I'm more in the mood to stay home, and of course I also get sick way more often. Between work and School, being out in public during the chilly season gets me sick even more. This of course gives me time to work on other projects while I'm stuck in bed, or tucked under covers trying to make sure I keep warm. I find that knitting and crochet, while very tiring at times, is also very rewarding. It's good exercise for my bad wrist (which was injured in a car accident several years back), and it's very relaxing. I'm able to work on several projects while watching movies, or sitting with friends, and while I can keep partial attention on the project at hand, I can still interject with conversation, and keep a watchful eye on the movie or show, or even dinner. I've become so used to carrying at least one project everywhere with me at all times, that I will knit at school waiting for class, or during my lunch break. I notice that a lot of the other students in the halls will watch or look at me like I'm odd -- but this doesn't bother me -- I feel accomplished, and I'm enjoying what I'm doing. Perhaps it's the added perspective and relaxation that the craft brings to me, but when these things happen, I can't help but feel even more accomplished.

I know a craft that very few younger people will pay attention to, and while it seems like a granny-type of craft to work on, in the end, I'm helping to keep a tradition alive. At work I'm often sent through the yarn department to go through, clean up, and put away yarn on the shelves, or to help out someone looking for something specific, or some advice for needles for a project. I find this rewarding as most of the women who ask are elderly, and while I'm quite young, they seem to believe, with mild disbelief if you will, that I actually knit and crochet myself. I keep little amigurumi dolls pinned to my work apron, because I find that they're very cute and the children who come through the lines at work enjoy them, and they also give me something to discuss with other needlework crafters that come through my lines. Sure it's retail work, but sometimes it's very enjoyable and rewarding....I'm happy to be a part of the crafting community.

...//Beading a Beaut//...

I dove into beading because of a tragic thing! When my boyfriend and I started going out, he bought me a ring in China Town - a simple jade rose ring with a woven cloth band.
About two weeks ago, the band, having frayed severely from constant wear and tear, snapped.

I was very depressed about this.

In a great leap of faith to try and repair the ring so that I could still wear the beloved gem, I bought some silver wire, and some soft green, glass, seed beads from work (I work at a Michaels Arts & Crafts).

The night these items were purchased, a good few hours were put into repairing, measuring, twisting, and beading until I had just the right band that fit my small finger -- and it's still attractive!

I'm very proud of how the band turned out. It's simply a single wire with the beads added to it, looped through and secured simply by twisting it around itself. I have little worry of this breaking at all, as the wire is very strong for being so fine, and the glass seed beads I doubt will break as they are also very small. The ring doesn't twist as much as it used to before (I did make it a tad bit smaller than the original band size), so I hit it less when moving around while wearing it.

I think the hitting of the stone on the desk and in doorways was what caused the original band to fray so greatly. I kept hitting it because the ring would twist and move. It's a large stone, so I expect I'll still hit it, but I doubt I will hit it nearly as much.

UPDATED WORKS!

 100_1570
Originally uploaded by aearrineth
I've been crafting away, and failing to update my craft blog! I've gotten several knitted AND crochet projects done since my last post! And I've got a few other projects in the mix.

But first off -- I wanted to let everyone know that pays attention to me here, that I now have a Ravelry account. You can find me there under the name: aearrineth of course!

So, the current project? A Large Starghan for myself! I have tons of pictures of it over in my flickr account, as well as on my ravelry account, but here...check it out for yourself! This is just a preview of what it looked like earlier in the day!

If you click on this image, you can go to my gallery and see other works I've done! Including, but not limited to amigurumi dolls, new scarves, wrist warmers, and other nifty things. I'll be adding more scarves, and slippers there soon as well, as the holidays approach, as I told myself that this year I would make gifts for people again. Though the project I'm showing here, the starghan, is a gift for myself! I thought I deserved something nice!

also, from now on, I'll probably be updating via flickr and adding photos using that, as it gives me a much better presentation than just importing the images from photobucket. YAY!

//Zombie Amigurumi Bunny of DOOM//

I know...I know...I just posted the other day with a couple FOs, but OMG, I NEED to share the cuteness that is my first amigurumi! Yea, it's not knitting, but I thought you all would enjoy it. It's the second toy I've ever made. I attempted Pasha the Penguin at one point, and that didn't turn out so well, but this little guy is pretty sweet. I think I'll call him Apple. Because he makes me think of Poison Apples. It's an amigurumi zombie bunny of DOOM. DOOM I SAY!

Just like always, I took some in-progress pictures :D

The whole process took me a few hours to complete this little guy. But that was because I kept messing up, and then I kept looking online for other patterns so that I could basically make exactly what I wanted. So...it's a little bobble-headed zombie bunny with a mushroom-base body. :3 I'm quite fond of him already.

Now, a rather unloved stuffed animal had to sacrifice it's life in order for this little guy to come to be. The victim? A big-headed/little-bodied dog-thing I won at the carnival last month, and immediately decided that it would be disected and it's guts used for the good of future toy projects that I wanted to do.
I would have taken pictures, but the massacre was too gruesome, and I wouldn't want to upset your poor stomachs (I forgot to).

This is the head, all stuffed with the eyes attached -- sort of. I knotted up some of my leftover salmon pink embroidery floss from my Perdita project and tied a bead at the end of it. The bead came off, but I fixed it later.

now that's a pretty big head. but hey, I'm not complaining. Maybe in future projects I'll be able to make smaller ones, which will be insanely full of the awesome sauce.

So, after flitting around online for a while, I found an amigurumi mushroom pattern. I took the base stem from that and made the body of my little zombie bun. I put about a half-handful of beads at the bottom of it and then some filler in before attaching it to the bobblehead

After that I took some black embroidery floss and made a very messy stitch mouth...

THEN IT WAS TIME FOR EARS!

I didn't want the ears to be solid teal like the rest of the bunny so I just crocheted up a short little bit of acid-green and then crocheted the teal around it for the ears and attached those.

1...

and 2!

Now the second ear is a bit shorter, but that's because it rotted away.

For a little added cuteness I made a red bow for him.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA ZOMBIE BUNNIES~!!!

Materials:
- Acrylic worsted weight yarn in teal and bright green
- pink & black embroidery floss
- Red ribbon
- the sacrifice of one big-headed dog thing for guts
- tapestry needle
- sewing needle
- black bead
- one saftey eye thinger
- and a small handful of misc. beads for the butt.
(Oh yea, I used a G hook for the whole thing)

I'm actually really really happy with the outcome and plan on making LOTS of other little critters. I now have a little Amigurumi kit that I made up with beads and fabric and the like that I can use for future amigurumi plushies. I'm planning on making a pirate bunny because my boyfriend gave me this big pirate ring that I can't wear, and I think it would make a pretty cute belt for a smaller bunny. We'll see how that goes. I think for now, Apple is going to be a desk zombie. Unless he ends up staying in New York when I go there on Saturday (I might be there for two or three weeks at my boyfriends house, so expect a bunch more pictures when I get back of the amigurumi fashion. I'm going to be teaching him how to knit and how to crochet because he wants to learn -- say it wht me now: "daaaaw").

...//Something other than scarves//...

I've been making scarves since I started knitting about four or fiveyears ago. I'm tired of scarves!! I love them, but I wanted to do something more challenging, and after the let-down of not having enoughyarn to finish my prisoner of azkaban style Harry Potter scarf, I decided to work on something else.

That's why I ended up working on two items from Knitty.com....First, a birthday present for one of my old highschool friends.
It's a smaller version of Knitty's Tasha, done in dark green with a few accents added to it...I took lots of in-progress pictures as well as a few nice completion pictures of it....

I apologize before hand because some of the pictures are rather blurry, and there are a lot of pictures here :3

I had started the bottom of the bag, and then decided to get all the accessories out of the way, so I started to crochet up a rose:

When I was done with the rose, I made two leaves, and a butterfly -- my friend really loves butterflies, so I knew right away that I was going to add one. It took me a while to find a butterfly pattern that I liked, but I think the one I found turned out rather nicely~!

So then I started working on the rest of the bag...

and after a couple of days, I stitched it all together~!

It's a little uneven in parts, but that's because of my horrible seaming skills. sewing was never my strong point. I've got to work on that. But, I'm very happy with it, considering it's my first real non-scarf project, and my first bag project. I made it out of acrylc yarns because that's mainly all I have, and I think that acrylics are a bit more durable -- she tends to wear out her bags, I think.

So after that I wanted to work on a smaller project, just to try something different, and small was definitely what I went for.
I ended up working on the Lilac version of Knitty's Perdita in a sort of salmon pink thread with baby blue beads...

I have a box of thread for making friendship bracelets. The old-fashioned ones where you have to knot each one and you can create diagonals and ropes and things. When I was younger I'd perfected it so that I could make diamonds and hugs and kisses and all sorts of zig-zags. But that takes alot of time to do, and after a while it's kind of tedious....besides, for all the work you put into it, the bracelet isn't very large.
So when I saw Perdita on Knitty, I decided that I was going to make it...
My first attempt didn't go down so well...I tried it in black with some semi-clear dark blue and deep purple beads. I think it was a matter of misunderstanding the pattern, and that at the time I tried to do it I was knitting wrong. I spent a good deal of time re-learning how to knit because I'd been basically twisting my stitches the whole time by knitting through the back loop.

So I sat down and put on a movie (Rock-a-Doodle, mind you) and decided to try this one out.

I haven't yet blocked the bracelet, and I decided to use some teal glass "pearls" that I had from another project I'd been working on that ended upgetting scrapped for later.

All-in-all I'm pretty happy with both, and I'm thinking about starting some other lacey projects. I have some really soft deep wine red yarn that I'm thinking of using for something lacey, though I don't have nearly enough for a shawl or shrug.
Thankfully though, I have one LYS that I know of in Newark (Stitches with Style) that I haven't gotten to go to yet, but I'm very excited to try it out. I'm looking to get some more needles, and I'm thinking of trying out my first pair of socks. Of course I'm choosing something insanely difficult: Knitty's Lickety Split tabi socks. I hate wearing shoes, summer or winter, but in the fall and spring, I figure some nice tabi socks would be very nice, especially when I get myself a nice pair of geta sandals like I'm hoping to sometime soon. I'm thinking of opting out of using the zodiac kanji and going for something else since I'm using a light purple and light teal for the colours -- I also have moon, star, and spellbook buttons that I'm probably going to use as the decoration for the socks themself, so I may try to put stars on the socks instead! Hmm...

..//Scarves and Neclaces ahoy!//..

Well, I finished the cabled scarf for my boyfriend.....unfortunately, I don't think I took any pictures of it before I gave it to him. So, hopefully sometime this weekend I'll be taking pictures of him in it.

In other news, I'm working on the Inner Truth scarf...

in other crafting news, I've made some necklaces....

One is for my boyfriend...

And the other is for me:

I'll post more pictures when I get them done. As of right now I'm going to be changing the thread/cord that the necklaces are on because I don't like how they're sitting. So after I do that, I'll take new pictures. The charms are from a keychain I found at Walmart, and it holds significance simply because of a conversation my boyfriend and I had at one time. The beads were also purchased at Walmart, and are bone beads, however there are metal beads and some hematite ones on there also from an old charm bracelet that I took apart. Yey recycling.

The scarf is a gift for one of my best friends, Jeffrey. He's liking the design so far, and he picked out the colour himself. It's a really bright lime green.

After I finish this scarf, I'm thinking I might try to whip up a Jayne Cobb hat for my friend Mike.

Simply because I know he'll love it. Jayne is his favourite character from Firefly/Serenity after all. (buy the movie!! and dude, if you haven't seen Firefly, you're missing out!)
One of my most cherished posessions:

enough of me ranting about how freakin' awesome Firefly is. :B
So...that's my crafting blahg for now. :x

I will update more later with more pictures and things I'm working on later.....eventually I'll have to put up pictures of the little bombs I made out of styrofoam and duct tape. :3

Warm Cables and Crafty Cutthroats!

Well, I've finally got pictures!
I'm currently working on some scarves since it's getting cooler out now. I've got some cruddy pictures of the one that's in progress and the two colours that will be used to make similar scarves.
first, the smallest, crappiest picture:

see? Small and crappy.
now we've got some larger ones! (they're still crappy, my camera sucks booty)...

and here are the two balls of yarn that will be used for similar scarves. I didn't use flash, but the light from the window was just too much I guess...

The red is a deep wine colour that I just love, and that will be a scarf for myself made the same way this grey one is, of course it will be made last. The bright green is sort of a...really bright kermit the frog colour (I really like it), picked out by my best friend, who will be getting a scarf done in a similar but not quite the same sort of pattern. Both are very very soft, acrylic of course. Both are Caron Simply Soft in Raspberry (7oz), and Limelight (6oz), however the Limelight is Caron Simply Soft Brites! hehe. I guess that's why there's the weight difference. I love the way it feels. The grey yarn being used for the current scarf is...uh....I know it's colour is Heather. I picked it up for a Slytherin scarf I was going to make for my sister, but never did. It's warm and thick, but not nearly as soft as the other two. Hopefully it'll still be comfortable for my sweetheart <3.

Now, the pattern for the scarf I'm currently working on, I ganked from a Live Journal knitting community that I'm a member of. The post can be found here.

Now, I'm in a debate. I've got two patterns that I'm thinking on for the green scarf.
I could do Good Ole Cabled Scarf....which has possibilities. Or I could do Connemara (warning: PDF file)... OR! I could do Inner Truth...I like all three of them. My friend really likes the pattern I'm currently doing, so I was thinking on either Connemara or Inner Truth... hmmmmmmmm
I guess I'll have to pass both patterns by him to see what he likes better.

In other knitty news....this ebay item is giving me palpitations!! I would LOVE to have it holy crap. I might have to check and see if I can borrow like $35 from someone to buy it if it isn't already gone!

As for the projects I spoke of before, I do still want to do some sort of Firefly scarf, however, I might get around to making Jayne's hat before I get to making a Blue Sun scarf...
And I really do have to get out to that damned LYS that I have a business card for (I really want to go get some natural fibers!!!!!)

Ahoy there, matey!

Oh my stars and garters!!
What is this? Is Aearrin posting?!

That she is, my friends. So pull up a chair and get yourself a pint! Settle in because this is going to be a lengthy night!

or something.

I've been knitting quite a bit, and even some crochet as of late too! I plan on taking lots of pictures as soon as I get the chance (most likely today)

I've been working on my prisoner of Azkaban stlye Gryffindor scarf. I'm on the second set of trapped bars -- which leaves 12 more to go!
I've also made a few sandal-less sandals, a sea-side sash (which needs a little more work), and some hats -- one of which I call "Cheshire".
I've also been diving into the realm of Live Action Role Playing again, which makes me creative. I made some bone-bead and seashell bracelets for my character, as well as the sea-side sash, which was to have blue pearls and seashells. Of course I didn't finish it in time and I need to add to it, plus the thread broke with the pearls on it so I have to fix that before I can call it complete! It's a very lovely teal.

So, reasons as to why I haven't posted in ages? I moved, was without internet access, and things all around were just cruddy. Infact, I've moved TWICE. Up from Florida to Delaware again, and then from one place in DE to another. I'm now pretty much settled, and content, and hopefully things will start falling into place really soon. I've been here for just about a year now, so hopefully nothing else will get shaken up too badly.

I have a huge desire to find a way to make a Firefly scarf. I want to put the SERENITY symbol into a scarf really badly. I wonder if I can find a pattern online...hmmm mental note to self. Look one up later.

I never seem to work with anything other than acrylic or synthetic stuff. I'd really love to get some wool or silk to play with.

Today is the day that Pirates of the Carribbean: Dead Man's Chest comes out, and I plan on being the pirate hobbit of the high-seas! Arrrr!!
I'll be postin' more photo's soon, so stick tight, matey!

...//Knitting Knots and Loose Ends//...

...//I finished my Irish Hiking Scarf recently, gave it to my friend Kris, because she wanted a nice green scarf. It's a little late in the season now for it here in Delaware, but it still gets chilly here and there so it's still ok to wear it now and then. I'm going to make myself one in a nice tan shade when I get the inclination to do it. I made a kittyville black kitty hat for myself too. I'm now planning on making myself some little cuffs, a yoga-mat bag, and maybe a messenger bag. I might start on the bag soon -- I really need a bag that I can use for a while. It'll be my Lord of the Rings bag (my Hobbit bag) since I decided that the other style I was going for wasn't going to work out very well. I've still got all the supplies together for the bag, and I've got plenty of yarn, so I should be able to make the bag, no sweat. I might make it a book-bag style bag, or maybe something that's interchangeable. I don't know. I'm still working on the details of that, but I know I need a bag! I also got the idea from a knitting journal I watch to make a poring hat after a game I was absolutely addicted to when I could play (Ragnarok online!), so that's an idea that I can use to get rid of some of the really bright pink yarn that I've got.
...//Other than that, there's not alot of projects that I want to do. Maybe a newsboy/rasta like cap that I saw in SnBN. I love those books. They're really a god-send! And the patterns are really great. Though I seem to be having a bit of trouble with the yoga mat bag pattern. I'm going to have to post in the knitting communities that I'm in to see if someone could help me out with it.

...//snowy crap and kitty hats!//...

Well; knitwise, things haven't been too bad. I finally finished the SS/CoS Ravenclaw Movie styled scarf for my significant other. He really enjoys it. I'm glad, because if he didn't, I'd have had to destroy him for all the time and effort I put into that stupid thing! Now I have to make a PoA style Slytherin scarf for my little sisters birthday which is in February -- spare me!
But, since it's snowed recently, this gives me some time to do things -- I wish. I did, however, take one weekend to make myself one of the kittyville kitty hats so that my ears wouldn't be so cold all the time! *love* I adore it~!
I've been asked to make some washclothes, which is easy enough; and they shouldn't take very long either.
I've been trying to make a bunny hat in the same sort of fashion as the kitty hat, but it's proving to be really difficult >_<; damn ears!!!!
Well, otherwise, knitting is slow; I don't do it too much since my wrist and fingers start to hurt because of the cold weather lately.

Slothy Scarves!! I've paused working on my irish hiking scarf for a little bit, and started a ravenclaw scarf for someone. I'm about half-way into the scarf now. SS/CoS style of course, since he didn't want PoA style. I haven't started the PoA Slytherin scarf just yet, since I'll need my DPN's to do it with. Once I finish the SS/CoS Ravenclaw, I'm thinking about trying to make a kittyville hat or some such for myself. I was hoping to have the Ravenclaw scarf finished by tonight, but it doesn't seem like that's going to happen. It's a gift, and the person's birthday is tomorrow!! So it's going to have to be a Yule gift instead!
I don't have pictures to post, because I don't have regular internet access, and my camera needs a charge-up and it can only do that if the computer is hooked up, which it's not.
So, I'm accessing from a friends, just to update this!
My move went a little bumpily, but I'm moved, and getting settled. Pictures of projects I finished, and ones I'm working on, and ones I'm getting ready to start! Joy!
First off, projects completed:
Mikado Fingerless Glove:

Current Projects:

Future Project:
Well, I'm going to make my sister an Azkaban Styled Slythenrin scarf from Atypically knit ( http://knit.atypically.net/scarves/azkaban/pattern.shtml ) Here's the yarn I got:

Originally the braided scarf (which is done in a colour called 'pinata') was done in moss/seed stitching:

Hehe, you can kinda see my Merry and Pippin pin hooked on there. These aren't the best pictures in the world, but ah, they get the point across. So after I finish up the braided scarf in pinata for my friend Jessica, I'm going to start the Slytherin scarf for my sister, and hopefully finish the Irish Hiking scarf for myself and start a hat for my cousin. Probably the kittyville hat...not sure if it'll be the devil or the kitty yet. She hasn't decided. I'm also going to make a cute dice bag for my friend Mike. Probably something in blue or white with angel wings. :B I think that'd be kind of cute. I've got some little wings that I can stitch on there to make it nifty. I thought the braided scarf for Jess would be nice. Something for when she's walking across campus when it's chilly. And it just looks cool, I think. Bright colours. She's not usually a bright-colour person, but you know...I really love the colours. Shit. I might just make her a braided scarf in green if she pisses too much about the colours on this one XD And if she doesn't like the bright one, I'll give it to Mindi (who will almost surely love it), and make her a new one in green. Should probably just go ahead and do that without saying anything.
Ok! So my cousin wants the Devil hat from kittyville.com (as well as published in Stitch n Bitch!). And later I'll probably make her one of the Punk Backpacks.
Well, that's about all there is for this post right now. Starting an Azkaban Slytherin scarf, working on a braided pinata colourway scarf, and an Irish hiking scarf ('course the azkaban scarf and the irish hiking one I'm in knitalongs for!)

EDIT!// I took some better pictures of the Mikado Fingerless Glove that I made! Now you can see the details better!

Gifties Galore!

Well! No pictures. This will be a pictureless post for now! I'll be sure, however to update again soon with some pictures.

So, I put some little buttons on the side bar there for two knit-a-longs:

In other news, I finished one of the fingerless gloves...BUT it's a little big. Must think of something! I'd make socks, but I can't yet....I could go with the scarf-thing. And use this perdy Red Heart Multicolour in Pinata that I've got....ooh. that's an idea! perdy mult-colouredness! There we go!

I also want to make a Hatmione! But...I don't have the cash to get the pattern. bummer. Some other time, maybe O_o; Found some patterns for things that I wouldn't mind making, but it will have to wait! I'll get to it eventually :B
So...knit knit knit~! I better get busy!

The Buff-a-Thon!

Recently I've decided to pause on my Hobbit baggyness, and opt for something wear-able that would be slightly warm-ish for this unusually cool weather here at home. So, I opted to go for the Mikado Ribbon Fingerless Gloves, because I thought they'd be a little easy, and they're awfully stylish. natch.

I had some preatty awesome varigated (multi coloured yumminess) in a really bright array of colours (unfortunately until I go and buy my needed second skein, I'm not quite sure on brand or colour, because shame on me, I don't pay attention to those sorts of things right away -- I'll update later with the name and brand).
It's a really bright colourway with yellow, orange, green, blue, pink, and purple in variated orders. Very neon-rainbow. I had originally wanted to make socks with it, but then found out that I really don't have the supplies to do socks, and the worsted rainbow I got would not exactly work for all the patterns that I'd found for socks. alas, I was stumped. Until of course I found the Fingerless Glove pattern. Joy!

So, I started. I thought, maybe I could shorten the gloves some. Nuh-uh. My brain was too mushed to work the mathematical requirements to do such a thing, so after doing a nice little swatch to practice the thumb gusset, I found that I couldn't understand the instructions (gasp!) to even do the thumb gusset.
Going to an awesome community which I read over alot on Livejournal (knitting would be the community!), I got some very nice instructions and I think, in theory, I should be able to do the thumb gusset now without much hassle. I hope.
So then, I frogged my swatch, and started the glove over.

I lost count.

so, I frogged again, and started over.

I lost count.

Third time's a charm? you bet! I'm just about half-way done with the left glove, and as soon as I get my second skein I'll be starting the right glove. I can almost feel the warmth already!

So, while watching the rest of season two, and the beginning half of season 3 of Buffy, I've gotten a good amount done. mind you this is in the past two days. I watched pretty much an entire season in one day doing this...

Have some pictures:
Hey, look! My awesome messenger bag got in the picture! (it wanted a cameo):

A wee bit closer:

I'm ready for my close-up:

So, you can't really tell, but the yarn is really pretty, my picture-taking just sucks, I would have messed with the brightness/contrast, but I'm feeling lazy. And you can't really see the cable work -- but it's there! I swear it is!

And before I forget, I finished the front panel for the Hobbit bag, and started the gusset! It's slow-goings, probably because it's just the same stitch over-and-over agian, and it won't get remotely interesting until I have to do the HOBBIT runes. I'm not buying the lining until all the peices are made, and then I still have to block them, and stitch 'em together, and figure out a strap. It's going to be a little while, but it'll all be worth it in the end!

When I finish watching season 3 of Buffy (which will probably be today) have a couple new DVDs to pop in:

Oh yea, BeatleMania here I come! All that sexy british-boy-ness in a pre-packaged box for $5.50. I can feel the fan-girl screams bubbling in my belly, baby.

After I watch those? Well I figure I'll just end up watching Slayers, or something I've already seen so I don't have to pay too much attention to details!

Ninja Kitten Yarn Bombs!

Well, I've spent a good portion of today re-winding all my yarn balls so that they're all pull-from-the-center balls. Which in my opinion, makes them look like bombs. Yarn bombs. I feel like I should make some sort of ski-mask with cat ears on it and become the kitty bomber.

Meow~! *tosses yarn bomb*
BOOM!! *yarn all over the place*

You know, something like that.
In anycase, I have a few pictures of some completed projects, and some in-progress projects, as well as my yarn stash -- which currently inhabits the inside of your average every-day variety kitchen-sized garbage bag.
But first....
Ok, I made a cat toy for my baby (her name is Skittlez, and she is a pirate arr, matey!). I used the pattern in the spring 2003 issue of Knitty.com's online magazine. It's super. She loves it.

My little sister wants one now, so of course:

I feel obliged to make her one....

That's a hat that I crocheted -- it's all double crochets. I wanted to make a beanie-type hat, or a skull cap, but at the time I didn't have the needles that I needed to knit one, so I did this instead. It's this really great multi-blend called Watercolour. so pretty -- I think I'm going to make a sock out of it....

HOBBIT BAG UPDATE!

Yea, I started over! I got about 40 rows into it and decided that it was way too wide originally, so I shrunk it down to 33 stitches across instead of 46 and it's much more do-able. You can't see the details too well, but it's done in Moss stitching (rather than seed stitching).

Here are my travel bags for works-in-progress and whatnot:

this one of course is smaller, and can only hold one project -- generally one ball of yarn, the needles, and a book aside from the essential wallet and lip-gloss....

This one, however, is a converted lap-top bag. I'm hoping to get something better later on (My Mum suggested a Mary Poppin's style carpet bag, which I would just love), perhaps for the holidays.

And last, but surely not least, are a few pictures of my stash:

You can see in the last shot there three multi-blend balls that I've got, one of which being my Watercolour. The autumny one is called Farmland, and the other one.....is...uhh... I forgot what it's called....I got it specifically to make a sock or two with, but I'm thinking that I'm going to make a fingerless glove-arm-warmer-type-thing with it instead....

Half-pint Halfling Handbag!

So I had all this really great green yarn -- I was originally going to make a Punk Rock backpack ala Stitch 'n' Bitch, but then I realized I'd bought two different skeins of green. So I opted to make a mini bag instead! I've been on such a huge Lord of the Rings kick recently (of course my friend Jess and I are just ga-ga over Hobbits specifically two of them. Take a wild guess which ones. Here, I'll treat you to one of our random IM conversations:

Aearrin: XD Hop-scotch hobbit on the rocks? Get it?
Aearrin: originally it was just Scotch Hobbit
Aearrin: then I was like Scotch is like the drink so I added "on the rocks"
Aearrin: and then I was like Hop-Scotch!
Aearrin: so I just put it all together
Aearrin: Hop-Scotch Hobbit!
Jessikins: does sound like a smooth, gets-better-with-age liquor with juvenile tendencies
Aearrin: in a short bottle
Jessikins: tastes really good late at night...while alone. Can't stop at just one!
Aearrin: half-pints are just good like that
Jessikins: Hello, I'm Jessica, and I'm a Hobbit-holic...Bless me with the serenity......rather--THEIR serenity
Jessikins: hey--get *2* of them--and get a WHOLE pint!
Aearrin: hence why Merry and Pippin always come together as a package, and Frodo and Sam. It's two for the price of one!
Jessikins: "Wha's tha'?" "This, my friend, is a *pint*" "'m gettin' 'un!" "But you've got a WHOLE half all ready!"

Well, I forgot to mention that I got the Scotch part, because well, I'm Scottish, and Scotch means Scottish, doesn't it? I thought so. So...Scotch Hobbit, Scotch Hobbit on the Rocks, and then Hop-Scotch Hobbit on the Rocks. Wonder if I can still add to it....Anywho....Speaking of Hobbits....

This is kind of an old snap of the yarn and things I'm using for it, but I haven't taken any new shots yet. Here are a few more, detailing the yarn, and fabric, and of course -- The One Ring!

So then I drew up a little diagram here -- you can see in the pictures above how I made a 'fellowship leaf' out of yarn, well I did that by making one big leaf, and two smaller ones and stitching them together like so:

Here's the pattern I'll be using for the front flap design:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v409/Aearrineth/yarnbits/hobbitrunepattern.jpg
and here's a theoretical sketch [before I added some other ideas] of how the bag will look when it's all done:

Knitter Jitters!

Well, here's the first post! It will probably be fairly long, so bear with me here!
First, we've got my two Gryffindor scarves. One's crocheted. This was the first scarf I made when I taught myself how to crochet. After that I made a Slytherin scarf, and a Ravenclaw scarf crocheting in double crochet stitches -- they work up really quickly, but they're not as pretty as knitting.

And the second one I managed to knit up -- it took me forever! I had originally wanted to get it done for Halloween, but never finished it until Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban came out! I finished it the DAY it was released! Talk about slacking! I knitted it up on regular straight needles, and when I finished I just stitched it up and flipped it inside out -- I didn't have any good circulars or DPNs, so that was the best that I could do at the time!

So I managed then, to pick up some really great yarn in a pretty multi coloured pattern called 'watercolour' in Red Heart super saver! So far all I've made is a beanie in double crochet, but I might make a tie too!

I spent a good amount of my time making another scarf using a really nice sparkly white, and a dark purple, I did the whole thing in seed stitching (or Moss, depending on what you call it, I've heard the version I've done is the UK Moss stitch).

I'm gonna cut this short here, and post about my other bag in it's own entry!! I'm so excited about it! Onto my Hobbit Bag!!

Halfling Hobbies!

Halfling Hobbies:---Well! Let's start off by saying that this blog probably won't be very dial-up friendly at all! Most of my entries will have tons of pictures, and that will certainly make any dial-up user cough-sputter-and-(most likely)-die. So, that's just a little warning there.
---Info wise, I always loved arts and crafts as a kid, and I was always making bracelets, or necklaces, beaded, and braided, and flossed, and any other thing you could think of. I made clay dragons, and even took a 3d art class and made jewelry. Well, one year I decided to teach myself to crochet, and then about a year or two later I taught myself to knit, so now I do them on a regular basis, because you know you can just make so many things with such a relatively cheap hobby like knitting or crocheting!
--You'll probably hear a lot about Harry Potter, or Lord of the Rings because I love both of those books/movie/series, but I bet there'll be some other fan-blathering here and there, but I'll try to keep that to my normal journal as much as possible.
---I'll put links to patterns as much as possible too, and books that I like too if I can, and if I make something up, I'll try to post patterns on it in this blog so everyone can try it out!
---Well. without much more blathering, I'll let you get onto checking out the blog! Just use the lovely little swirl arrows here at the bottom to click ahead and check out the beginnings of my stinkin' craft-blog!
